Enjoy the jazz music ----blog5

JAZZ

This semester, I have the chance to learn the subject “world music”. It gave me a lot
of chances and opportunities to have a deeper understanding to different types of music
genre and culture.
Tonight, I just attended a Jazz’s night. I personally love all types of international
music, and as usual, the sounds of the music almost immediately draw me into its tempo.
I was easily set into the ambience filled with Jazz music, my heart indulging and
pumping with the rhythm of jazz. This very night, this music concert, my very first time
to actually witness with my own very eyes and ears the bands jazz performance, I feel so
fortunate. The feeling is fantastic…so hard to describe.
Knight has the remarkable American characteristic music from to remain obscure; to
stem from folk music to develop into the US territory and is one of the artistic types of
music. Till date, it now plays in nearly every corner of the world, with people listening to
this type of music. Jazz presents the prosperous scene by many kinds of forms, from root
Bruce, Ragtime (Ragtime), after New Orleans jazz to Dixieland jazz, swings happy,
mainstream knight, compared to Pope, modern knight to free knight and electronic
knight.
This progress has allowed jazz music to have continuous transformation in pattern and
rhythm, and has become a very unique, national characteristic. So renowned that all
should not lack of this type of music. This development has also become in music family
the essential one kind of music.
In my opinion, I feel that in Jazz music, the most important is the rhythm and tempo.
Without this, one cannot fully feel and comprehend the music. In the opening session of
the orchestra, the drummer plays an important role in enticing the crowd.
The band consists of 5 members: a pianist, bass, guitarist, drummer and singer. Their
performance is more to relax, light music, unified with a cheerful, energetic melody and
rhythm. The concert started, and the singer and band blended well. It was a harmonious
match and this created a superb performance. Every audience in the orchestra was
infatuated deeply into the melody. Every time the pianist and bass play together, letting
the relax, smoothing sound filled the atmosphere, it feels so peaceful, taking away all the
problems one have.
The second song played in the orchestra’s performance is primarily on piano melody.
During the process of listening to the tune, it is possible to listen to the ingenious change
in the melody and different style of rhythm change played by the musicians. The melody
sometimes played slowly, then fast, giving the audience continuous surprises and
unceasing new feelings. This song lasted for about 20mins. Although the song is long, the
audience were not bored but were all mesmerized by the music instead. I personally like
the combination of melody and rhythm mutually tangoed into one harmonious change,
giving me a very comfortable feeling.
The third part of the performance is the highlight of the night. Being different from
the beginning performance, the jazz tune incorporated Latin mix. This song not only
requires every musician to have a good understanding to each other, everyone must be
focus on their own key notes and not be distracted by others external keynotes. The low
key bass played must be of their own style and stand out from the song. The drummers,
on the other end, must unify the melody to join to the fast tempo rhythm. Well mix!The
audience got excited as the music played. Some even started to stand and dance. With the
audience’s loud and warm applause, the whole ambience was lively.
I am impressed by the fact that there was no conductor. They merely used eye
contact on each other to sufficiently not create any errors, and changed the rhythm
together during the whole song. They must have spent a lot of time and effort practising
together. I was filled with admiration to them.
The final entrée song is the classical Jazz music. It caresses the audience mood with
music of peace, romantic serenity, and everyone was again memorized. A special
characteristic of this performance is the use of “stopping”.It was neat and clean, and the
sound echoed in the vast hall. Everyone concentrated in listening to the next “stopping”.
The whole melody was captured not only in my heart, but I could feel the whole
sensation going through my whole body, nerve system. Finally, I too gave my warmest
applause!
When the concert ended, the audience did not bare to leave their seats. Even with the
departure of the musicians off stage, everyone could still feel the lingering of jazz music
reverberating in their ears. Feels to me everyone is in love with Jazz music.
The deepest impression to me after this spectacular performance is that music is the
bridge to all communication, with boundless limit. You may obtain all sentiments from
the kind of music you want, or you can use music to express your feelings. All you need
to do is to use your innermost feelings to feel the music. There is no translation in music.
Its more of a congenital ability, where no studying is required, yet able to exchange views
and understand one another. I love Jazz music as it made me feel and enjoyed music from a different dimension

Jane Eyre----- blog 4

Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century. The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.
Francis Bacon said in his essay, ‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’ That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.

what means music to me---blog 1

I think is different means for different people. Somebody think, life may be all in the day's work that it doesn’t has more important meaning! These people for life, they don’t know how to treasure; sometimes, they just provided with neglect and waste! This kind of guys, they didn’t know treasure life, nothing for everything, also, they didn’t know which things are they like and why did us still live on the earth! For life, I am not very clearly understood, at least I think so.
In this limited time, I think we need to do much more significant things; so, the speed is fast for life, like Beethoven’s symphonies. So we need enough passion toward life and we need try to know what life is!Music is kind of language, we can use them to deliver oneself of happy、sadness…if we want to taste more music, we must understand how to feel and how to listen!

Try to feel music, try to study music. When you unhappy, you can sing a song, you should be relaxed youself.this is music to inclusive power in our life!Life need music, but we need is not more luxury, we really need is treasure our life!Especially for us study music. We should be understand more reins; for family、friend、society.
Music is flowing poesy; we are not lonely because we have music accompany us. We usually use ear to listen and use heart to digestion. But more time ,we always use music to take in something, lose friend、disappear the time、cracked sentiment…..
Reminiscence is a kind of nice taste, especially when I listen to the old music, I always come back to the long since. I am very like to listen a music—”Norwegian Wood”, when the music start, I can feel peaceful air and limpid lake. Some people said “listen the music is enjoy, is feeling life” I agree this point of view. I love music, when I alone at home, I listen some serenade let me feel very kindness and loneness…
I like placid and somber music, because is very heavenliness like conduit.I am very like ballad, but I didn’t sing very well, I am envious of that can sing very well the guys. But anyway, I don’t care this too much; at least, we like music.Did you try to listen some symphony at very bored afternoon? You will be your body and Psyche from quietness’s time to wake up! This feel like thunder on summer, let’s everyone get enough spirit.
I always get more calefaction and affect for music. Music can told me life is very beautiful, so far as we have indebted heart and try to feel, to love, we will get more chance and happy in our life!

Foreign worker---blog 3

There are many foreign workers leaving their country and family to make money in Singapore. Some are lucky to land in reasonable jobs while others aren’t so lucky. There are even cases like a small pool of these foreign workers duped into coming and realise no jobs in Singapore.
Strong syndicates of manpower businesses in some countries have used sophisticated ways to swindle the workers for quite some time resulting in such plight of the workers. This continued process of hiring workers from many of these poorer developing countries generates a huge amount of money and is in demand. This is because there are a lot of cases where the permits are not approved by the Singapore immigration side and hence some came into the country on social visit for a short few months before returning back to their countries. The harsh reality is to know that these foreign workers take loan money from lenders to pay a brokerage fee to work in Singapore. Some don’t earn enough to even recoup his brokerage fee,and they live in a dormitory in a shabby condition and wait for odd jobs.
However, as we know, the global economic downturn had hit United States hard, and this ripple effect had hit many developed countries like Japan, UK and Singapore too. Majority of these foreign workers come from Bangladesh, Vietnam, China etc. Because of this economic crisis, it had made things even harder for them. Many are retrenched due to companies going bankrupt, others having pay cuts or pay freeze, some having their working days reduced and this in turn affected the workers. Due to no money; food, shelter and health became an issue. That is where this desperate group of foreigners could have done or succumbed to in order to survive their ordeal is to turn to crimes. I cannot even bring myself to imagine the neighbourhood shop being robbed, innocent aunties being pick-pocketed and all sorts of other petty crimes. This is some liberal policies that the government will have to fine tune in the importing of foreign labours and enforcing existing regulations more effectively.
Looking into the scope of Singapore's rapid construction, import and export trades, shipyard and manufacturing sectors, increased labour is required. However, due to higher education enforced in Singaporeans, many Singaporeans would not take up tough, manual labour jobs. They too have a mentality that others would look down upon them. Hence most of these jobs are undertaken by many of these foreign workers。These foreign workers are indeed a crucial source of manpower for the manufacturing and construction. These industries are among the first to play a key role in globalization of the economy, however are also the first victims when the financial crisis hit the global markets. Among the 11 countries in Southeast Asia, the Singapore government has taken the development of the first export-oriented policy of the labour-intensive manufacturing.
Jobs as maids are another case of shortage of labour in Singapore whereby the majority of them are from India, Thailand, Philippines, Bangladesh and other countries. Some maids are forced to wake up early in the morning to do housework and till late in the night. Some even have to clean more than one house. Luckily the Singapore government came up a ruling that only registered homes be cleaned and not more than one. Their salary has also been revised and they are entitled a day off per month.
Due to labour shortage and low-cost labour, these workers with their own wisdom and hard work, contribute to the success of Singapore economy, but also weaving their dreams of a better life ahead. However there is always a gap between reality and dreams. Not all of them are able to taste the fruits of their labour. The impact of financial crisis badly hurt the construction industry in Singapore. According to the description of foreign workers, non-payment of wages is an increasingly serious problem. Some employers delayed their wages for several months to a year. Others did not even earn a penny for their hard work. These foreign workers need a work permit to work and stay in Singapore. If no such permit is tantamount to illegal will be thrown into prison or sent back. Usually the employer of these foreign workers will use their work permits to threaten them, and some employers even illegally captivate them. Some employers will charge high mortgage payments of $5000 from the workers and said they need pay the deposit to the government. In fact, the $5000 is to ensure that the foreign workers in Singapore leave within the work permit stipulated time and also in not breaking the law. In fact this amount is required to be paid by employers, and not,the workers.
In general, when the workers paid the deposit to the employers, it would be difficult to take back. The Singapore Government has stipulated that an employer can contract works in accordance with the volume of applications to the Ministry of Manpower. Some employers take advantage of this to earn high agent fees; will submit more entries than the actual target needed. After the admission of the foreign workers to Singapore, they will leave them aside. From what I know, there are many such cases locally.
There is a rising issue that many of these foreign workers don’t want to go back home. Reasons could be because of empty-handed with a huge debt awaiting back home. Others like the more fortunate ones picking up skills and have a job. However if more and more migrant workers come to Singapore, I think the government will have to start shutting their doors to migrant workers in Singapore. I can’t believe a job with a minimum fixed monthly wage of 1,500 Singapore dollars for local people, and then the migrant workers only have 500—800 Singapore dollars per month, that is low-paid for migrant workers and insufficient money to sustain life. By again this is my opinion, and surprisingly some could even survive by only 5 dollars a day.

These are the challenges and confrontations faced by these foreigner workers but by shear hard work and determination, they do churn out a life of their own. The favourite pastime of these workers are gathering to chit-chat and relaxing on the grass fields in parks.

Music scholars versus musicians----blog2

I think the music scholar is studies something very seriously as someone who studies music as a subject; the musician is a person who play professional instrument with music or someone professional studies with music. In my point ,there is connected each other .for example ,the students initial start the music cannot became to musician, because they don’t comprehend about the music knowledge and how to play professional with instrument. Thus, I think is became to a good musician before you must be became to a good music scholar, because the music scholars needs learn a lot of music knowledge and someone learn about can be described as “humanly organized sound” or” the purposeful organization of sound “.that is different learn about music, you become to the music intellectual that you will comprehend the music is a form of true feeling communication, being true to oneself when come to music If u got learns more about music I think u will become to musicians.
